Experiencing Photography, Lens Baby Style

In a previous post I mentioned that I had been introduced to Lens Baby at the Kevin Kubota Boot Camp.  During camp, one of our photography exercises was a Scavenger Hunt!  We were given a list of words and challenged to shoot photographs representing 10 of those words. We were encouraged to think outside of the box, use a lens that we did not often work with and go it alone!  We had a couple of hours and could go anywhere in the general vicinity of the lodge.  Sisters is a beautiful part of Oregon, so there were many photo opps everywhere!  I decided to use my brand new Lens Baby Composer and started out!  This is a lens that is manually focussed.  It has a sweet spot and provides blur around the edges of the sweet spot.  You turn it and tilt it to produce creative shots. Yowzer! Was that different from what I am used to shooting with!  It was quite a challenge at first, but then I started having great fun with it.

OK, so I did not come up with a photograph of a typical pet, but I suppose people living in the area might consider them such!  And the good news is that they really don’t have to even take care of them!  Now remember, I was restricted to my little Lens Baby, which did not have much ‘reach’.  The lens that I probably shoot with the most is my Nikon 70-200 mm 2.8!  So to capture these little beauties, I had to use great stealth!……not something that I excel in, but I did manage a quick photograph or two, thus completing my mission!  Although some (most members of my own family for certain) will argue that FUR is really not how you would describe these coats, but hey I was running out of time and it was all about creative interpretation…after all!
